It has now been over six years since I purchased my monocle from Monocle Madness. I had not worn one before, and I soon found that it very quickly became one of my most favourite things. Proving to be so much more than a (somewhat stylish) fashion accessory, it is still used repeatedly all day, every day.

The design of the monocle consists of a metal ring, which contains the glass lens. A metal cage is attached to the ring. This cage fits nicely within the eye socket, where natural pressure holds it in place. A metal loop can attach a neck-chord, which is also highly recommended for regular use.

The workmanship is superb and both monocle and cage are very well constructed. Despite daily use over six years, the lens remains in excellent condition, due to being worn around the neck rather than kept in the pocket, along with coins and other scratchy things. With additional monocles being bought for presents over recent times, I have found that Monocle Madness provides excellent customer service and swift delivery.

The lens resolution I chose was the same as my regular reading glasses. It took a matter of seconds for my eyes to get used to only using one lens and once in place, the ring and cage construction proved comfortable and easy to wear.

This resulted in the monocle swiftly replacing the glasses as my chosen everyday eyewear. Amazingly, while my reading glasses were always going missing and endlessly getting lost – The neck-chord accompanying the monocle, means that worn around the neck, the monocle is almost impossible to lose when not in use.

I will shortly be replacing my original monocle, for one with increased lens power. I am also going with a different colour for the metal work. I think I will replace my gold coloured original for a shiny new silver one. I am sure that it will soon become as beloved as the original.
